Landscape of Vowels

Exploration:

My landscape is the forest of Dharamkhot, pines all around and mountains above. The sounds oo and ee and oh, speaking them out loud, with my eyes closed become the sounds of creatures hidden in the trees at night, at dusk, or even in the daytime.

ee is the sound of a summer bird at noon. It’s sound is all heat, all brightness, all sun.

oh, oh, oh is the sound of a night bird hidden in the forest. It’s call is rhythmic, soothing. And inside my hut or on the verandah or walking down to Billy and Carlos’ shack in the dark oh, oh, oh remembers me to the quiet but quivering mystery inside.

eh I feel like a gentle wind sweeping the roof of my mouth. Then the breath descends into the cup of my tongue. Invisibly, gently eh drops into the tongue’s curve and the curve receives it.
